Winner of the 2023 AFC Excellence in Technology Award was Mobilize Financial Services IS Team (pictured), receiving the award for leading the way in transformation, striving to innovate, displaying technical excellence, and being fully engaged in their strategic direction.

The UK IS team at Mobilize Financial Services is in a unique position within the sector as they manage all software in-house, running bespoke software for MFS UK and effectively operating as a software development house within a bank. The 80+ team manage the full scope of an asset finance software suite, including customer and dealer facing solutions, as well as in-house users, data solutions and an all-encompassing microservices approach API.

The IS team has not been exclusively built from those with an IT background. Many of the teams’ success stories came from the wider business environment and have now become valuable members of the team, and of the company, with a vast knowledge in the systems, methods, and a growing technical knowhow.

Building a team with a mixture of technical and business experts has been one of Mobilize Financial Services’ key success factors, with many people joining the team from other areas of the company and moving along a development path to business analysis, expert testing, data expertise, Scrum masters, and line managers.

The Mobilize Financial Services IS team is actively promoting the need for more women in tech and encouraging more diverse talent to come through the ranks. Members of the IS team visited a local girls’ high school to demonstrate IT solutions covering VR, AI, Alexa and GPT, and the company is successfully deploying intern, graduate and apprentice schemes in technology.
