Mike Janse will join the opening panel at the inaugural AFC Leaders’ Summit Europe in an agenda which will focus on the commercial and regulatory landscape for auto and equipment finance in the EU in the lead-up to the EU elections in June.

The event takes place at the Steigenberger Icon Wiltcher's in Brussels on 16th April. It starts at 10.30 and finishes with an early evening dinner.

Joining Mike on the opening panel will be Mathilde Saint Pol, managing director, TMF France, Econocom; Bill Stephenson, Global CEO, PEAC Solutions; Richard O’Donohue, senior director, ww strategic partnerships, DELL Technologies; and John Saffrett, Group Deputy CEO, Ayvens (the new name for the formerly ALD/Leaseplan businesses). This will follow on from briefings on regulation and policy from Richard Knubben, director general at Leaseurope; and Benedikt Middendorf, Director, automotive mobility, Deloitte on the impact of the Battery Regulation on auto and equipment finance.

Other sessions during the day will include participation from Yin Noe and Zoey Lin, both joint head of EU & UK, Yangtze River Delta Automotive Alliance (a consortium of over 100 chinese OEMs and other participants in the Chinese battery ecosystem) talking about the market entry strategy for Chinese auto and commercial vehicle OEMs into the EU market; Dr Euan McTurk, Consultant Battery Electrochemist, Plug Life Consulting to provide his take on the relationship between batteries and residual values; Brit Schönenberger will interview John Saffrett on the vexed question of who pays for the transition to green assets.

In addition we have Francois Millot, Head of Retail Finance, EMEA, CNHI Capital talking about the impact of battery regulation on commercial vehicle transition; Dr Simon Engelke Founder & Chair of Battery Associates talking about the challenge of funding giga-factories and Ian Robertson, executive director at Invigors managing a panel to discuss the commercial opportunities which are offered by Greenhouse Gas Reporting and Taxonomy.

Afternoon roundtables will consider the big questions of the day - Jochen Jehmlich, former CEO of SGEF will tackle whether the auto and equipment finance industry should be leaders or simply enablers of the transition to sustainable assets; Bill Stephenson will consider whether private equity, manufacturer captives or banks are best placed to lead the market in an industry dominated by regulation and increasingly asset-specific solutions; and Carmen Ene, CEO of BNP Paribas 3 Step IT will be considering the opportunities for circular economy and we hope will help delegates understand the new concept of scope 4 emissions a new category which considers avoided emissions.

Places to this important networking and big-picture debates on the future of the industry are strictly limited. If you would like to come along – please apply by writing to louiseclavey@assetfinanceconnect.com
